Semnio is an accounting practice app operated by Tyshawn Allison as an individual, based in Illinois, USA. This page explains, in plain language, what information Semnio collects, how it is stored and used, and the choices you have. It is written to be honest and easy to read.

Accounts and why we use them

Semnio uses accounts so your progress can be saved and synced across your devices. You can sign in with Google or with an email and password. When you sign in, we create an account for you.

What we collect and store

• Account information: your email address and an account identifier from your sign-in provider.
• Your study data: practice progress and activity (questions answered, results, streaks), your flashcards, study plan, saved settings, preferred name, and daily/test session data.
• On your device: Semnio uses your browser's local storage to keep your progress and settings on the device you are using, and syncs them to your account when you are signed in.
• Basic usage analytics: we record first-party usage events (for example, which section was opened, whether a practice answer was correct, time spent, and basic device and browser type) to understand how the app is used and fix problems. These are tied to a session identifier and, if you are signed in, your account.
• Feedback and reports: anything you choose to send us through feedback or report tools.

What we do not collect

Semnio does not ask for or need sensitive personal information, and it does not send your study data to any outside advertising or third-party AI service. The in-app Practice Coach and answer grading run on Semnio's own rule-based engine; your answers are not sent to an external AI provider.

Where your data is stored, and who helps run Semnio

Your account and progress are stored in a Supabase database, and the app is hosted on Vercel. If you use Google sign-in, Google handles that sign-in. To protect sign-up and sign-in from automated abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, which runs a lightweight browser check and does not use cross-site tracking cookies. These providers act as our service providers and process data in the United States on our behalf. We use industry-standard measures such as encrypted connections and row-level access controls, and we keep administrative credentials on the server side.

Cookies and local storage

Semnio uses your browser's local and session storage to remember your progress and settings, and a small number of cookies that are necessary to run the app (for example, to keep you signed in or to remember access to a preview). Semnio does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not use your data to run ads.
• We do not share your study data with third parties except the service providers above that help run the app.

Keeping, deleting, or exporting your data

We keep your account and progress while your account is active. You can clear your on-device data at any time from the app's settings. To request a copy of your data, or to delete your account and the data associated with it, email contact@semnio.app and we will handle it. (A self-service delete option in the app is planned.)

Please do not share sensitive information

Semnio is a study tool. Please do not upload or share sensitive personal information, such as financial account numbers, government IDs, health information, or passwords. The app does not need it, and you should not put it into questions, feedback, or any other field.

Students, minors, and school use

Semnio is designed for college-level and adult learners and is not directed to children under 13. Semnio is built with privacy-conscious practices, but it has not completed a formal institutional compliance review. Regulations such as FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, and CCPA may apply depending on who uses the app and where. Before any official school adoption, a school and Semnio should complete an appropriate compliance review and, where needed, a separate data agreement. If you are using Semnio through a school pilot, your school's own privacy policies also apply.

International users

Semnio is operated from the United States and your data is processed there. If you use Semnio from another country, you understand that your information is processed in the U.S.
